Our Mission

Partners Creating Community (PCC), a non-profit located in Chester County Pennsylvania, is the parent organization of Green Lion, Heart Stone and Pear Tree.

PCC was founded originally with two goals: to make exceptional, artisanal breads from local grains in the time honored tradition, and to do this in a therapeutic work environment that would support our “contributors”: co-workers and volunteers with intellectual and developmental differences. Together we have the transformational experience of doing meaningful work and mastering a craft.

Since our beginning with Green Lion Breads, we have grown with the addition of two more artisanal businesses, again led by inspired makers, always with our shared human mission at the core.

I’ve been so fortunate to have worked with Partners Creating Community and Green Lion Bread Co. from the very beginning. Our dedicated bakery team produces truly outstanding breads and other baked goods, and we are very privileged indeed to be doing work that nourishes our community and brings real joy into people's everyday lives. The bakery belongs to all of us, from the team that is engaged in the daily labor of the work, to the customers that buy our bread week after week, to friends and benefactors that support our community’s mission to empower all of our contributors to live, work, and grow to their fullest potential. 

The bakery is such a fun place to work, and even as we grow, we’ve been really intentional about making it a place where you always feel like you’re among friends and family, and rare is the day we go more than 10 minutes without erupting in laughter, even on the busiest production days!  I hope that anyone who visits us at work or at our farmers markets feels like they are a part of that community. It is what we are all about.
